Are lightning strikes coming your way?
Be alerted while INDOORS or OUTDOORS or BOTH with this permanently mounted lightning sensor!
This lightning sensor can automatically alert you of approaching lightning strikes!
Detects lightning coming from all directions, its not directional like some types of lightning sensors are!
DOME-101 Lightning Sensor.
This lightning sensor will alert you to approaching lightning strike activity coming near your home area. 30 mile detection range for plenty of warning time for active thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms having frequent lightning will easily activate the alarm.
Just mount the sensor outdoors on a 5 or 10 foot pole depending on how much range you desire. 10 feet gives @ 30 miles range.
Easy two-wire connection to common buzzer alarms. Just connect a 9-volt battery and a buzzer for a complete lightning alarm system.
Also will drive a siren for loud outdoor warnings. Great for back yard play areas.
If you want a lightning alarm system you can fully customize, then use this lightning sensor as the heart of it.
Fully weather-proof and water-proof sensor will withstand summer heat and freezing cold.
Analog lightning sensor preserves signal strength: weak or distant strikes give low volume short-length alarm sound, local or strong lightning gives louder and longer alarm sound.
Sensor is overload and electrostatic protected (you can't burn it out by experimenting with it).
Draws minimal power, a 9-volt battery will last up to a 1 year of constant useage. Perfect for use with low drain solar powered applications.
A piezo buzzer alarm (you supply) will sound up to 10 seconds for each lightning strike detected.
The alarm sound length per detection can be user adjusted down to about 2 seconds minimum, 10 seconds max, via external resistor in alarm circuit.
Adjustable detection range and adjustable alarm volume are possible.
Severe storms (that usually have lots of lightning) cause constant alarm sound from your buzzer.
Supplied with instruction sheet showing how to use it with two types of simple alarm circuits you build.
You can also use this lightning sensor to trigger alarms, sirens, lights, bells, relays, etc.
You supply 9-volt battery, battery connector, buzzer, cable and any other items you desire for your DIY (do it yourself) lightning detection system!
Alarm parts (buzzer, battery, cable, etc) available from Radio Shack or other electronic stores.
Easy two wire binding post connection. Sensor acts like a lightning remote controlled switch, turns "ON" briefly each time lightning is detected.
Can be used to pull in a reed relay briefly for each lightning detection to trigger a secondary alarm. Good if a nice clean "ON" - "OFF" is desired.
Operating voltage range is 6 volts to 12 volts.
Sensor detects the low frequency radio wave radiation emitted by lightning strikes.
Mounts to any standard TV-type antenna pole 5 or 10 feet tall. Supplied with mounting clamp.
DOME-101 Lightning Sensor is $ 79.95 each + s/h.

WHAT THIS IS AND WHAT YOU DO TO MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU:
This is the weather-proof lightning sensor with mounting clamp and instruction sheet. It is manufactured brand new in USA. You supply a 9-volt battery, battery connector, buzzer, cable and any other items (from Radio Shack) that you desire for your custom DIY (do it yourself) lightning detection system! Start out with a good lightning sensor and make your alarm do whatever you want.
The minimum requirement is a 9 volt battery and a piezo buzzer and 10-feet of wire available from Radio Shack. You will no doubt want to build a nice box for your completed alarm, whether it be an indoor version or an outdoor version.
Don't worry - you can't burn out the sensor when powered at 12 volts. Its also electrostatic and reverse polarity protected. This is one tough sensor.
The sensor can be adapted to sound a 12 volt siren. Instruction sheet shows how. Outdoor electronics can be solar powered, the lightning sensor draws minimal power on standby, allowing full power to be available to sound the alarms.
You can even add a signal strength meter across the buzzer, the sensor pulls more current for stronger strikes than weaker ones, allowing this function to work.
Its very easy to connect and use. No complex circuits, just a simple design like the one below will drive a siren or buzzer to warn of approaching lightning strikes.
It is easy to connect a siren or a buzzer to the sensor to make a lightning alarm system. A bare minimum of extra parts are needed.
The siren will sound for about 2 seconds each time a strong lightning flash is detected within sensor range.
Power siren with a 12 volt battery. (A 9-volt battery will also work but at lower volume). Battery should be capable of at least 150 mA output, but no more than 2 amps output. (You should NOT use a car battery for the 12 volt source!).
Two 6-volt "lantern" batteries in series (to make 12 volts) will work very well. Or use a 12 volt lantern battery or a 12 volt SLA "deer feeder" battery. (Available at Tractor Supply stores or other hardware stores).
If powering only a piezo buzzer (instead of a siren), then just use a 9-volt battery. The 9-volt battery should last about 1 year of round-the-clock monitoring use.
The earth ground rod shown in the diagram above can simply be a wad of loose wire buried about 1 foot under ground right next to the mounting pole (in the same hole as the mounting pole sits). Nothing fancy. Of course you can use a real ground rod if you desire. The better the ground, the better the reception. If you want full maximum possible range (over 40 miles) then a standard ground rod about 3 feet long could be hammered into the ground right next to the 10-foot mounting pole.
This sensor is designed to be mounted permanently outdoors for stable consistant performance. Enjoy your custom built lightning alarm system!
If you want to activate battery-powered gadgets when lightning is detected, this is the sensor you'll need!
Lets the alarm sound indoors! Build your custom indoor-alarm lightning detector system today!
Just connect some two-conductor wire cable to the outdoor sensor. Connect the wire cable indoors to a 9-volt battery and this buzzer for a simple lightning alarm! Its so easy!
Battery life will be about 12 months of 24-7 monitoring when used with this buzzer.
Indoor Buzzer. $ 4.00 each with purchase of lightning sensor only.
Just mount the lightning sensor and siren on a pole and connect a 9-volt battery.
This weather-resistant outdoor siren lets your lightning alarm sound loudly for each lightning detection. Also great for indoor use.
The siren can be powered directly thru the sensor with a 9-volt battery as shown in the photo and diagram.
Power the siren with a 9-volt battery for general home use near outdoor pools and play areas.
Size: 5.9 inches deep. 4.7 inches port opening.

STANDARD SIREN # 2. Heavy-duty 2-tone SIREN ALARM (shown above. white color, 3-wire connection (steady tone or 'yelp' tone). $ 27.95
Just mount the lightning sensor, siren, and a 9-volt battery. Its easy!
This weather-proof solar charging unit keeps your siren lightning alarm unit working 24-7! Binding Post Connections. Comes with U-bolt clamp for pole mounting.
If you want your outdoor lightning detection system to be completely 'stand alone', this is it!
Also can be used indoors in a sunny window to charge a 9-volt NiMH battery for indoor lightning alarm uses (such as driving an indoor piezo buzzer).
Solar Panel Charging Output: 9 volts at 20 mA.
The unit has built-in weather-proof battery compartment with battery snap connector for the 9-volt NiMH rechargeable battery you supply. NiMH battery available from Radio Shack stores. (Do not use a NiCad battery or regular non-rechargeable battery).
SOLAR CHARGER-2. ( 9-volts) $ 59.95 + $ s/h
Question: Do I really need a solar charger? Answer: If you will be leaving your lightning alarm system "ON" when not using it, then "yes". Otherwise you can just connect a good 9-volt battery each time before pool play. However if you want your alarm system to operate unattended 24-7 continuously, then use a solar charger!
