CLEARANCE! WE ONLY HAVE ONE IN STOCK! July 17, 2009. This weather instrument is very sensitive and will detect lightning over 100 miles away. Great when you need long range detection. Buzzer makes a "CLICK" sound for each detected lightning strike.
Its very important to know what's going on with the weather. Sometimes you may get too busy to notice the approaching danger. But no more! With the lightning detector on-guard you will automatically be warned of approaching lightning and stormy weather around your home area.
Lightning detections are sounded as a "CLICK" sound from the alarm box. The stronger the storms, the more "CLICK" sounds per minute. Severe thunderstorms that produce tornados (that usually have lots of lightning) will cause hundreds of "CLICKS" per minute.
The alarm on this model is not loud so it is great for a quiet home environment. Alarm is similar sounding to a finger-snap sound.
Its kind of like an electronic barometer that can sense the approach of storms, except that it is sensing real-time lightning strikes instead of slowly falling air pressure. Weather buffs will find this instrument to be far more "active" than a barometer!
Generally distant storms produce a few "CLICKS" per minute from the alarm. As the storms move closer more alarm sounds are generated. Severe storms will send the unit into "overdrive" as it outputs real-time detected lightning activity as rapid "CLICKING" sounds.
This lightning detector is made in America. Unlike other weather instruments (and some other lightning detectors), there is no need to mount it high up. Just mount it like you would a rain gauge, about 4 to 5 feet above ground level. It easily detects average-strength cloud-to-ground lightning strikes 50 miles away. Maximum range for super-strong lightning strikes (such as found in severe storms) is about 150 miles.
The sensor detects lightning from every direction, including directly overhead.
The lightning detector is at home both when mounted permanently or when operated portable as when mounted on any inexpensive camera tripod like the one shown (tripod not included). It can also be mounted on a 1.5 inch PVC pole. Comes with PVC pole mounting adapter.
Powered by one 9-volt battery for up to 1 year of constant use.
Easy to use: Just mount the lightning sensor outdoors, plug in the 50-foot sensor cable into the alarm box to turn it "ON" and unplug the cable to turn it "OFF". Simple!
Outdoor lightning sensor is weather-proof and water-proof. Supplied with 50 foot cable and 9-volt battery.
There are several ways to mount the lightning sensor: Any camera tripod, a PVC Plastic Pole, or a standard metal pole. Comes with threaded camera tripod adapter, and PVC Pole adapter, and U-Bolt Clamp. You can mount it 3 different ways, which ever is better for you!
SYSTEM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:
Note: Does NOT come with camera tripod shown or PVC mounting pole shown. WALMART has the camera tripod. Hardware stores have the PVC Pipe.
